I love grinding in games, but it has to feel rewarding, it has to give me some kind of significant progress based on how much time I put into it, and in RoI it didn't feel like my time was worth anything. I played it, had fun, but quickly the novelty of it dried up, and there was nothing else but unrewarding grinding. It's a good game in my opinion, but just not something I would play long-term. If you don't pay up, you're almost stuck, especially if you're tanking. What made me stop was the unbelieveably slow grind that you approach towards the end of the game. The gameplay is nothing special, it's more tab targetting than action combat. There are better and worse games out there, the pet collecting system so far was only implemented in this(Bless is doing it now too). They take too long to even start translating, and then they have this endless stream of beta tests, and then early access founder program, and people are already bored of the game by that point, when the game is finally released there isn't any hype left because people already saw how bad it is and how little was improved on the final version (b-but it's just a beta! b-but it's gonna be great! no it won't, anyone can see how the korean version that is 1-2 years ahead is doing and they're usually flopping already)Īnd yeah most of this apply to every Eastern mmo that failed in West, with the few exceptions you've mentioned: Tera, BnS, ArcheAge etc. Released too late<<<< This is one of the biggest problems with mmos in the past 7-10 years, there's times when there's an mmo draught (I'd say right now there is one) and planning the release of your game when there is no competition is crucial, also close enough to the original release that it isn't just forgotten and everything looks already outdated compared to similar titles. Monster Capture which is the gimmick of the game is somewhat limited by daily attempts and hard to get materials (maybe even pay2win nowdays but I haven't played in a long time) Slow updates (This made a ton of founders angry, as their founder perks ran out exactly when the updates rolled in, looking very sketchy)Īverage to mediocre combat, flying combat might as well not even be there. And if you do like it, then play it and stop caring so much about what the rest of the community is playing and try getting the stigma of the WoW population fluke out of your mind. Come back when you have played for a month, then see if you still think it is amazing. Just with a slightly different coat of paint.īut you really don’t need us to tell you why it is ‘dead’. Also after you get past the honeymoon stage of the 1 month of playing after being sucked in by flash and hype by the community of the latest MMO proclaiming it will be that next big thing, you start to realize it is the same shit you have already played numerous times. Meanwhile in the MMO community people have been conditioned to think that if an MMO doesn’t have 10 million players, then it is a flop. And now they are flocking to other genres and they don’t care whether it is an MMO, a MOBA, or whatever everyone else is streaming on Twitch. It brought in millions of non MMO fans into the game as they were just going with this big phenomenon. WoW, which everyone uses as the metric of success, was a fluke. There isn’t going to be a next big thing. You are easily swayed by hype and flash and care WAY too much about the latest overhyped game becoming this mythical ‘next big thing’. You and others keep looking for this ‘next big thing’. I'm blown away, why wasn't this game the next big thing?
